Sunset over a rocky coastline with a lighthouse and house on a forested cliff

Stone, Sea and Sky

Bass Harbor Lighthouse – Acadia National Park, Maine

Perched on the rugged, weathered cliffs of Mount Desert Island, the Bass Harbor Lighthouse is one of Maine’s most iconic landmarks—and for good reason. There’s something magnetic about this place. The way the Atlantic crashes against the rocks, the lighthouse standing stoic against the elements, and the sky—always changing, always dramatic. This image was made during one of those perfect Maine evenings where the light shifts between fiery and soft, and the sea feels endless.

As a photographer, I’m drawn to these kinds of landscapes—places where nature feels untamed but still holds space for the human story. Standing there watching the sun fall behind the horizon, I felt that familiar combination of calm and awe. This isn’t just a postcard scene; it’s a reminder of how small we are in the best possible way.
