@Phxfilmrevival
I joined a photo walk with @phxfilmrevival recently, and even though I showed up with a digital camera (no film… yet), I felt completely at home.
Sometimes creative spaces can feel closed-off, competitive, or quietly judgmental. This one didn’t. It felt open. Curious. Human.
We walked. We talked. We stopped often. We noticed things most people walk past every day. Reflections in windows. Light doing something strange and beautiful for about twelve seconds before moving on.
Film has this built-in patience to it. Every frame costs something. Every click asks a question: Is this worth it? Being around that mindset was grounding for me, even as someone who mostly lives in the digital world. It slowed me down. It reminded me that photography isn’t about volume. It’s about attention. About being present enough to catch something before it disappears.
What really stuck with me, though, was the generosity. People sharing ideas. Helping each other. Getting excited about each other’s work. No ego. No hierarchy. Just a bunch of people who love images and believe they matter.
@phxfilmrevival is doing something special in Phoenix. Not just keeping film alive, but building community. Creating space. Making it easier for people to feel brave enough to show up with a camera and say, “I care about this.”
I left feeling lighter. More inspired. More connected to why I started taking photos in the first place.
And yeah… maybe one day I’ll bring a roll instead of a memory card.
